This group meets the third Thursday of the month. We will meet at members’ homes to learn how to make new delicacies or, perhaps, go to a spice shop or a special restaurant for culinary delights – basically wherever food can be discussed and/or consumed! We are open to any culinary activity you may want to suggest.
February 21 — Breakfast for Lunch This month we will break with tradition by preparing all our favorite breakfast foods and serve for lunch. Please join us and bring an item that is usually served at breakfast, Choices might be fruit, yogurt, eggs, pancakes, potatoes, grits – and don’t forget the meats. If you have a food that is unique to your family’s breakfast, we would love to have you share it with us. The meeting will begin at 11:00 AM at the home of Helen S. (Contact info in Directory or Newsletter.) Please RSVP directly to Helen to let her know the item you plan to bring. She will furnish beverages and for those not wishing to bring a dish, the cost will be $5.00.
March 21 — Visit to Bastrop We will make a second attempt to visit the city of Bastrop which we previously cancelled due to weather. The trip will include a visit to the Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center, browsing the shops on Main and Chestnut Streets, lunch at Neighbor’s Kitchen & Yard Restaurant near the Colorado River and finally visit the local distilleries. Those with a sweet tooth can enjoy cupcakes and ice cream at Simply Sweet bake shop.
Drivers will be needed for carpooling. We will meet at Schlotzsky’s parking lot near Hwy 183 and Braker Ln. at 8:30 AM and get on the road by 8:45 in order to arrive in Bastrop when the museum and shops open. This will allow us time to browse before lunch at 11:30. After lunch we can either sample the sprits at the distilleries or head to the sweet shop, which both open at 12:00 noon. We should be ready to head for home by 2:00 PM.
