Gardening Group

Gardening_2_ Welcome to our Garden Group!! Gardening_1_

The Garden Group consists of women who are interested in gardens, gardening, learning, and sharing. We usually meet on the second Thursday of the month at a member’s home or at a gardening venue.  Check specific activity for date. Among other activities, we will tour garden centers and exhibits, go to gardening events, have speakers, and enjoy each others’ yards.  Check your newsletter for information on the activity for each month.

February 5 (Mon): Out of the Cold and into the Fire

February in Austin is usually cold, gray, ugly…..  So, let’s get together at one of our homes, watch a gardening-related movie*, and enjoy some homemade soups, salad, & dessert.  (We’ll meet at 10:30 am – 2:00 pm).

For this, we need someone to volunteer their home – it needs a good-sized TV screen and Amazon Prime Video. We also need a couple volunteers to make their favorite winter soups, one volunteer to make a salad and another to provide dessert. Please contact me to let me know if you can volunteer.

*Movie: Greenfingers , 2000 (91 min.)

This film is a story about the rehabilitating powers of gardening that not only touches the soul, but tickles the funny bone.  It is loosely based on the true story about prisoners at a minimum-security prison in the Cotswolds, England.    It stars Clive Owen and Helen Mirren.

March 7 (Thur): Spring Time in Dallas/Fort Worth

Our group will be going on a day-trip to the Dallas      Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The 500,000 spring bulbs that are planted annually should be in their full glory. This will be a full day outing. We will leave early (about 7:30 AM) and return late (7:00 PM).  Please join us, even if you are not a  member of the Garden Group.

Upon arriving at the arboretum, we will start with lunch at the Restaurant DeGolyer, nestled in the center of the 66-acre garden.  They have an exquisite menu that will surprise.

After lunch, we will explore the spring floral displays for several hours.  The gardens are wheelchair accessible, and my husband has a motorized wheelchair that can be borrowed.

Before departing for home we will have a little picnic pick-me-up.  I will bring some Mama Mango wine, maybe others can bring fruit, cheese, dessert, etc. Please email me if you would like to participate.  The approximate cost (not including lunch) should be $30-35 — to cover the cost of entrance fees, carpooling, parking, etc.
